{Saigon School Moments} School's out for Summer!

We follow the American school calendar in Saigon, so summer is here and school's officially over for the year! 8 weeks of pain for the parents, but the kids are pleased.

Georgia and Mackenzie graduated today from Dynotots 3 at the Australian International School in Saigon (a year of schooling equivalent to pre-pre-Prep in Oz, if there is such a thing!). They are both excited about moving up to the "big" class of Dynotots 4 after the summer break.

Sadly, at the end of each school year we often have to say goodbye to expat friends who are moving on to other countries or back home. This time it's goodbye to Summer and her family who are off to a new posting in Switzerland and Kryztof and his family who are moving home to Poland. We'll miss you!

{Saigon School Moments} Book Week fun!

This week was Book Week at the Australian International School in Saigon.

Thankfully Georgia and Mackenzie have inherited a love of reading from both parents so it doesn't take much to encourage them to have a quiet moment with a book or three!

Book Week finished today with a book character parade at school. All students were invited to dress up as their favourite character and spend the day in costume.

{Saigon school moments} Georgia and Mackenzie's first school award!

A proud Mummy moment for me at school this morning. Not only did the girls impress me with their class dance performances at the junior school assembly, they both received a Merit Certificate from the deputy Head of Primary.

At AIS all of the junior students have goals set by their teachers. A certain number of stickers means an in-class award for achieving their goal. Once they have three in-class certificates they are presented with a Merit Certificate at the school assembly.

The girls have received awards for being happy when Mummy and Daddy drop them off every morning (a no brainer for them, they literally push us out of the room!) and for being tidy and helping around the class.

Must be honest, I didn't realise how big a deal it was until I found out that only three students from the junior school had achieved the Merit Certificate criteria in time for this morning's assembly (and two of those were from Team Somerville!).

You can bet they were showered with heaps of praise and cuddles from their very proud parents!

Today was Georgia and Mackenzie's first day of "big" school (pre-pre-Prep!) at the Australian International School in Saigon.

Here's a few snaps of them in their new uniforms. They were very excited about their first day and I'm happy to report they survived day one despite being separated into different classes.

They are growing up way too fast!
